SCANNER'S RETREAT IN OSTUNI, ITALY
September 26 - October 1, 2008
Tuition: $2000
Travel and accommodations are not included
Enrollment limited to 15
WHERE IS OSTUNI?
It's easy to find on your map. Located in the heel of Italy's boot, easily accessible by train from Rome or Brindisi, Ostuni lies in the fertile, lesser-known region of Puglia, called Italy's bread-basket (famous for its olive oil, wine and pasta). The town of Ostuni is a Mediterranean dream done up in whitewash and stunning architecture. For more info, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostuni. We'll be staying in the outlying agricultural area which is even more beautiful (and peaceful).
We've found a gorgeous Masseria (a 16th or 17th century country estate) with all the space and tranquility we'll need to let our Scanner spirits soar! TRAVEL INFORMATION
Ferries:
If you're coming from Greece, take the ferry to Brindisi and then the train to Ostuni (leaving every hour). Flights:
Your best bet is to fly into Rome and take the train to Ostuni (trains leave 2 or 3 times a day and take about 5 hours and the scenery is lovely).
Try searching the Internet for travel sites (www.kayak.com is very good) or 'bucket shops' (most are quite reputable; my sons have used them for years) for discounted seats. You should also head over to the bulletin board at www.scannersrefusetochoose.com where the grads of the last 2 Scanner Retreats hang out, to get first-hand advice from them. (You can ask them what they thought of the Retreat, too.)
When you arrive in Ostuni, call our cell phone (333-861-1364). We'll pick you up and take through the olive groves to the wonderful Masseria. ACCOMMODATIONS
We have made a special group arrangement with the owner of the
Masseria, so the price will be about 30 euros per night (40 euros
with a full-course dinner). We'll have the place to ourselves,
so anyone who wants single accommodation can have it at no extra
charge! You'll have the option to eat lunch or dinner in town,
and we'll take you out for at least one sightseeing day. You
can rent a car, if you like. The owner has a minibus for our
use and my son Matthew is happy to show you the local sights
and nearby towns with their medieval 'old town' centers.
Participants are welcome to stay on at the Masseria after the retreat is over,
but if you decide to come earlier you'll have to arrange accommodation on your
own. Contact us for details.
